Energy Smart Completes 129kW Solar Installation for Soaring Hearts Project

Energy Smart Canada is excited to have completed Phase 2 of a major solar installation for the Soaring Hearts Project, an affordable transitional housing development in Lethbridge operated by the Blackfoot Family Lodge Society.

The 129kW solar installation will help provide the housing complex with a more self-sufficient and sustainable source of electricity while helping reduce ongoing power costs. As energy costs continue to be an important consideration for affordable housing providers, solar power offers an opportunity to reduce operating expenses while investing in a cleaner energy future.

The Soaring Hearts Project was created to provide safe, affordable transitional housing for Indigenous women and their children in Lethbridge, AB. The development includes two seven-unit townhouse buildings, with each home featuring three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and access to backyard green space. Residents can stay for up to three years while accessing support and programs designed to help them transition to life in Lethbridge.

The project represents an important investment in the Lethbridge community, combining affordable housing with spaces that support family, culture and community. The Blackfoot Family Lodge Society’s vision extends beyond simply providing a place to live, creating an environment where residents can build stability and prepare for the next stage of their lives.

Energy Smart’s involvement adds another layer of long-term sustainability to the development. The 129kW solar array will generate renewable electricity on-site, helping offset the complex’s electricity consumption and cutting operating costs significantly. By incorporating solar into the project, the Soaring Hearts housing complex will benefit from renewable energy in a multitude of ways.

Energy Smart Canada is honoured to have been trusted by Blackfoot Lodge, Lethbridge, to contribute to a project that makes a meaningful difference in the community. Projects like Soaring Hearts demonstrate how renewable energy can be another tool to reduce costs associated with large-scale community projects, freeing up more funding to go towards other initiatives, all while having a positive environmental impact.

As Energy Smart continues to expand solar across Southern Alberta, the Soaring Hearts Project is another example of the positive impact renewable energy can have right here in our own community. From helping businesses and organizations manage energy costs to supporting sustainable housing developments, solar power is playing an increasingly important role in building a more energy-efficient future for Southern Alberta.
