Energy Smart Canada is proud to announce a new partnership with the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association (LTRA) that will bring a 62kW solar array to the organization’s facility, helping offset 100% of their electricity costs.
The announcement was made during the LTRA’s 50th anniversary celebration this July, marking a significant milestone for an organization that has been dedicated to improving lives in Southern Alberta since 1976. The LTRA provides therapeutic riding, adaptive riding, equine-facilitated wellness and other inclusive programs that support physical, emotional and social well-being. Today, the LTRA serves more than 350 students annually with the help of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Energy Smart has been proud to support the LTRA through a number of their events throughout 2026, making the opportunity to help them with this major renewable energy project particularly meaningful for both parties.
The solar project reflects Energy Smart’s commitment to supporting community organizations in ways that create long-term, sustainable impact. By reducing ongoing utility costs, the initiative will allow the LTRA to direct more of their resources toward their programs and the people they serve.
As a facility-based charity, the LTRA faces significant ongoing costs associated with operating their site and caring for their horses, including feed, veterinary and farrier care, barns, arenas and other essential infrastructure. The organization also works to keep their programs accessible through subsidies and financial assistance for families who may otherwise face barriers to participation. The new solar installation will reduce the LTRA’s power costs, eliminating one major financial burden.
The partnership is especially fitting as Energy Smart also celebrates their 25th anniversary in 2026. The solar project has created an opportunity for two local organizations to celebrate each other’s milestones and create something great together. Energy Smart is honoured to be able to help and support a local organization that does so much good and brings so much healing to the people of Southern Alberta.
