Lethbridge Geothermal Installations

The price of gas only seems to go up, along with everything else. Living in Canada, we don’t have the option to just turn the heat off, but we can turn the bill down.

With a geothermal system, you can decrease your gas bill while increasing the comfort of your home. Perfect for new builds, geothermal replaces your furnace, in-floor heating, air conditioner, boiler and water heater, keeping your home comfortable year-round without gas. And, it naturally increases the air quality in your home.

Live comfortably with geothermal.

  • We have geothermal heating and solar panels from Energy Smart! We've had maybe one issue in the two years and Rudy had the team out to fix the problem the next day! Would recommend them to anyone.

  • How does geothermal work?

With geothermal, you take control of your gas costs by leveraging the consistent temperature of the earth under the frost line to heat your home in the winter and cool it in the summer.

That allows you to simplify your heating and air conditioning to one mechanical device supported by simple plumbing. This simplicity means lower gas usage and less maintenance.

    01.

An antifreeze mixture is pumped through pipes buried deep in the ground.

    02.

The consistent temperature of the earth warms or cools the mixture to the consistent temperature (~10-15 C) under the ground.

    03.

❄️ In the winter, the liquid inside the pipes gathers heat from the ground. This liquid is pumped through a heat exchanger, where the heat is increased from the constant underground temperature and used to heat your home.

    04.

☀️ In the summer, the system is reversed and the excess heat from your home is transferred back into the ground via the mixture.

    05.

Then, an air pump brings fresh, outside air through a filter and the heat exchange unit filled with the antifreeze to warm or cool it to the right temperature. Because the system pumps fresh air in, your home doesn’t trap stale air or other contaminants.

What our geothermal customers are saying

Always ready to listen to our needs and give help and advice

EnergySmart have just finished installing a geothermal system in our 1950’s bungalow. Rudy, Peter and the crew are always ready to listen to our needs and give help and advice. The next step is to have them install a PV (solar) system.

I wish more businesses could operate and service with the knowledge, integrity and urgency that Energy Smart did

Our geothermal unit died. Pete from Energy Smart came and did an evaluation. After much troubleshooting and ordering of parts it was determined we needed a new unit. Pete and the team went above and beyond to help us apply for the greener homes grant and loan. After 2 months of waiting on approval, Pete and his crew were there the next day to install our new unit before the cold snap hit.

      Highly recommend!

      Everything has gone flawlessly

I have been a customer with Energy Smart for 18 years now. They installed my geothermal system back in 2005. I use their Arctic Spa hot tub and now I have had their team install a solar micro generation system for me. Everything has gone flawlessly. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

    Get in touch
    • Can a geothermal system be installed in the city? How much room do I need?

We’ve installed geothermal in both small, residential lots as well as in large, rural acreages. If you have any questions about installing geothermal on your property, contact us for a free site inspection!

    • How much does it cost?

Your cost depends on the size of your home and your property. So while we can’t give you an idea here, you can call us for a free estimate today.

    • What’s the lifespan of a geothermal system?

Geothermal systems contain many different parts, each with a different lifespan. But, the good news is that the pipes last indefinitely. The air pumps, which are quick and easy to replace, have a lifespan of 20-40+ years and far surpass the lifespan of a standard furnace.

    • Will a geothermal system save me money?

A geothermal system works best in conjunction with solar energy when it can reduce your energy bill to zero. However, even when pulling energy from the grid, our compressors can save you money – especially in the summer as they are much more efficient than air conditioning units.

    • What happens if there’s a leak in the system?

In the 20+ years we’ve been installing geothermal systems, we’ve never had to fix a leak. The pipes are well-protected to make sure they remain sealed for a long time.

    • Are geothermal installations allowed in Lethbridge?

Yes, the city of Lethbridge allows geothermal heating loops to be installed in residential areas, but does require a permit application before installation.
